Activities of BMIRC

The Bhagawan Mahavira International Research Centre (BMIRC) undertakes a wide range of academic, research, training and outreach activities aimed at bringing Jain philosophy into meaningful dialogue with modern science and contemporary global issues.

Research Objectives

• Analysis of scientific knowledge in Jain literature in comparison with modern science — identifying convergences and areas for interdisciplinary study.
• Systematic studies on Preksha Meditation and its effects on the brain, intellect and psychological functions.
• Research on Jain philosophical texts and critical analysis of Agamic literature.
• Documentation of mathematical and scientific contributions made by ancient Jain scholars.
• Manuscript collection, translation, editing and preparation of critical editions of important Jain works.

Training & Treatment Programs

• Instruction of Preksha Meditation to the general public and preparation of trained instructors.
• Application of meditation practices for treatment of physical and psychological ailments.
• Organization of seminars, lectures and workshops on Jain philosophy, science and allied disciplines.

• Effect of Prolonged Fasting on Human Health — a scientific study on the physiological impact of fasting practices (Dr. Pratap Sanchetee).
• Effect of Preksha Meditation on Mental Health of Elderly — a randomized clinical study exploring wellbeing improvements (Dr. Pratap Sanchetee).
• Jain Philosophy and Art History — scholarly studies on Jain heritage and artistic traditions (Prof. Sagarmal Jain, Prof. Bhagchandra Jain).
• Ahimsa and Peaceful Coexistence through Spiritual Practices — investigating the effects of yoga and meditation on aggressiveness and academic performance of school children.
• Engaging Jainism with Modern Issues — ethics, environment, social science and contemporary global concerns viewed through the lens of Jain thought.
• Ethics, Social Science and Environmental Science in Jainism — literature review and normative-descriptive-applied ethics in Jain tradition (Dr. Kamini Gogri).

Ongoing Research

• Critical interpretation of Jain influence during the Angkor period in Cambodia — exploring the historical footprint of Jainism in South-East Asia.
• Jain contributions to the development of Number Theory — documenting mathematical concepts, formulas and combinatorial insights from Jain karma-theoretic and mathematical treatises.
